Three years experience of living in Madrid and teaching English in local and multinational companies with a professional academy and 1-2-1. I teach all levels from beginner to expert.
I teach general English at all levels but specialise in business situations: interviews, presentations, meetings. Vocabulary and idioms specific to business settings, appropriacy of language to situations, pronunciation and intonation. I have 20 years experience in business in the UK, including at senior management levels. Settings include IT, project management, programme management and Business Change.
Locations include: at your house, at your business, in my apartment or in a cafeteria. Based in the center of Madrid, but will consider anywhere in the city.
I am a CELTA-trained native-speaking teacher of English as a foreign language, having taught in Madrid since January 2016. This follows a career change and a permanent move from the UK in 2015.
I spent almost twenty years holding a number of positions of responsibility, including IT developer, Business Change, project manager and programme manager, and established great trust with my employers. I have always tried to maintain high personal standards in my work. All the roles required a high level of interpersonal skills and a positive, motivational attitude. In addition, they required strong negotiating, organisational, presentational and communication skills at team and board meetings, as well as in other contexts, including telephone and teleconferencing – also strong business English writing skills for email and the production and review of formal documentation including reports and business cases.
I took a CELTA course at Chester School of English in Madrid, where I acquired a strong basis in teaching English as a foreign language. The last two and a half years have been spent consolidating this in business settings, both local and multinational, and with a wide variety of professionals: technical, senior management, directors, creative professionals and entrepeneurs.
I work with a professional language academy in Madrid, teaching in classrooms, meeting rooms and at the desk; both in group and one-to-one teaching environments. I teach all levels from Beginner to Proficiency. I have experience of teaching individuals with a variety of learning objectives from general improvement to preparation for specific events, both at work and in their homes.
I am very enthusiastic about working with students to help them achieve their goals, and enjoy sharing my love of English in a business setting and general English with others.

STATEMENT OF INTENT
After a lifetime gaining professional experience in a wide variety of fields, including IT, Business Change, Project and Programme Management, I launched into a new career as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language in January 2016, applying my enthusiasm for business and the English language, along with extensive experience of working with people (mentoring, training, managing, motivating and problem-solving) to a new context, with new challenges and opportunities for personal and professional development and learning. I have now been teaching for almost three years, consolidating initial skills gained on the CELTA course with a broad range of experience in both classroom and one-to-one environments. My business experience has proved valuable in assisting students to achieve their English-speaking objectives within a business context. Experience gained teaching and assessing general English with an ambitious and successful language academy has been augmented by attendance at teacher development events and use of online courses. I look forward to continued development and to assisting students with a wide range of backgrounds and goals to improve their English skills.
