Taking salsa classes with Julieth was clearly one of the best decision and highlights of my three month stay at Playa del Carmen. As a retiree who had not seen a dance floor since university days and the wedding decade that followed, I really did not know what to expect. My original intention was to take a few "survival" classes in anticipation of the obligatory dances in weddings of the next generation. We therefore started with the basic steps, along with tips on how to adjust to different rhythms and environments.

Under Julieth's patient guidance, I was able to grasp the basics quickly, or at least more quickly than I had anticipated. We then move on to learn a number of simple variations and eventually some of the more interesting and challenging moves, i.e. the "vueltas", "show" or "casino" (yes, I also learned some vocabulary) moves which we see in movies and videos all too often. Surprisingly, they were not as difficult as but so much more fun than I had thought. Equally as important, Julieth was also able to give me many tips on how to dance with strangers; with much better (and a bit less experienced) partners: how to communicate with partners to ready for the "moves"; etc., which transcends cultural and linguistic differences.

If Julieth could teach this Old Dog to dance and enjoy dancing, I am sure that she could help anybody even more effectively.
