Sobre Sebastián
I'm Norwegian with background in sales and marketing.
I left Norway in 2018, looking to explore not just the planet, but life itself, and find meaning to fill it with.
I fell in love with South America, and in 2021 I decided to move to Brazil where I've lived for three years, and last year I moved to Buenos Aires.
I'm sure many of my reasons for deciding to live in South America are the same as yours..
The friendly people, the fun culture, the food, the climate..
But it also has a lot to do with the language(s) and way of communication they have here.
I fell in love with the words and expressions they use in both Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
Learning the languages really well has made my experience here so rich, and made me feel a lot more "en casa".
I've worked the last two years as a language teacher online in my native language Norwegian.
Learning about the challenges my students faced and helping them solve them, combined with my own experience of learning Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, has given me a robust outlook on how we human beings best should learn languages.
We tend to think that the process of learning a language is not over until one speaks "perfect". But it doesn't work that way.
I'll help you get comfortably from a beginner/intermediate stage to a stage I call "fluent and functional", in which you can understand what is being said, and make yourself understood.
From there, you'll have a great foundation to study grammar if so desired.
But remember through frequent interaction you will train your ears to hear what is right, instead of (over)analyzing the language mentally to know what is right.

Learning a foreign language does not need to be hard, and does not need to include heavy grammar excercices.
One thing is what we'll do in the classes, and another thing is what you should do outside of the classes.
My teaching method goes like this:
Our first lesson:
We get to know each other a bit, and we discuss how to best learn a language as an adult. I introduce you to my methodology based on 7 years of proper experience learning (learning is a continuous process) Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
I'll help you create a strategy for what you should be doing in your day to day life, so as to make Spanish a part of your routine in a natural way, and I'll explain to you WHY it's crucial that you listen a lot to the language in the beginning and intermediate stages.
This alone is what differentiates a person who's able to understand AND speak Spanish at a high level, and a person who might be able to understand, but struggle with speaking.
Listening primes and prepares your brain for the language you're learning.
Our weekly lessons:
We interact with Spanish in a way that suits your level.
We will look at photographs and describe them, and talk about related topics. We can also take a look at texts and other content. Through frequent interaction with the language, instead of deliberate attempts to memorize words (such as in the traditional grammar approach), you will naturally remember words and get used to NOT having to think while you speak, which is what you want to avoid.
Advanced students of any language who has this tendency, tend to have created the perfectionist habit of always needing to say the correct thing, resulting in frustration, loss of motivation and loss of desire to speak.
There's a lot to be said.
But there are some really clever ways to learn languages in 2025, and I'll gladly help you find a way that works for you.
