Sobre Silvia
My work experience mainly revolves around the teaching of English as a foreign language at all levels of education (from pre-school to higher education). I have more than 15 years of experience as a university professor at Universidad Simon Bolivar (USB) in Caracas, Venezuela. I have been a professor for the Scientific and Technical English Reading Program, aimed at engineering and basic sciences students. In the Master´s degree program in Applied Linguistics I have taught the following courses: Introduction to Applied Linguistics, Research Workshop in Applied Linguistics and the Seminar for the final degree project. In the same way, I have directed some final degree projects, and I have been part of the evaluation jury of other degree thesis. I have also been an instructor in the English courses for the administrative staff of the USB and in the English courses activities of university extension. I have as well taught Spanish to foreign students and I have work as an English-Spanish / Spanish-English translator. Also, I have plenty of experience in the development of didactic materials for foreign language learning.My methodological interests focus on Reading comprehension in second and foreign languages, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and the influence of Metaphorical knowledge in Reading comprehension in English for specific purposes.
