MY way of teaching is:
in the first meeting speak a little English to understand why you want to learn the language; be it for travel, simply to learn the language, business education or any other reason,
in the second meeting; have a more personal chat with the person, to find out what level they are at and what they should improve; your strengths and weaknesses and improve them.
The following meetings would already be vocabulary, correct when speaking or writing; so that in the end we can say that you are all a Spanish speaker.
